IDHSNA REGISTERED PREFIX LIST

• A Registered Prefix may be registered for a one-time charge and cannot be used by another person without the written consent of the registered owner or his or her executors.

• The Registered Prefix can be used in any/all IDHSNA Studbooks or Registries.

• New prefixes must be between 3 and 20 characters long with no spaces, hyphens, numerals, apostrophes or other special characters. (i.e., one word).

• Registered Prefixes must be unique and distinguishable from all other Registered Prefixes. The prefix should be a geographical name or a distinctive word or name. Prefixes cannot solely be made of obviously descriptive Irish wording “Shamrock”, “Clover”, etc. If these words are part of a farm name or business, the obviously descriptive Irish word/name and one or more additional words/names must be combined to create a unique prefix. Breed names are not allowed.

• A Registered Prefix that is pronounced the same as one already registered but has different spelling will not be allowed.

• Prefixes known to be used or registered in Ireland and Great Britain will not be approved for purebreds. Some commonly used words, for example, Flagmount’s may be allowed for use in partbred names. The final decision shall rest with the IDHSNA.

• Profane or overtly offensive prefixes will not be allowed.

• Only members in good standing may apply for a Registered Prefix.

• The IDHSNA shall publish a list of Registered Prefixes at least once a year.

• The Registration Officer shall keep the list of Registered Prefixes.

• Only prefixes used at the beginning of the horse name can be effectively protected by IDHSNA.

• The Board of the IDHSNA reserves the right to modify the rules and processes at any time for prefix retention.

• Final approval rests with IDHSNA.
